Navy saves lives

The Navy who swiftly responded to the disastrous weather conditions of the country saved a large number of lives of fishermen and their vessels marooned in Western and Southern seas, naval sources said.

The Navy set out ships and crafts on search and rescue operations to save the lives of fishermen and their vessels.

They deployed their Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Squadron along the coastal belt.

The Navy rescued five fishermen off Kollupitiya, two off Beruwala, one 0ff Induruwa and five off Norochcholai.

Two fishing trawlers stranded and four capsized vessels in the rough seas were also salvaged and tugged to safety by the Navy.

Navy sources said they deployed four ships: Sayura, Samudura, Suranimala and Jayasagara along with their 10 FACs in search and rescue operations coordinated and supported by the Air Force and the Army
