Up Country Lions justify their inclusion

Up Country Lions FC- Nawalapitiya, created the biggest upset so far in the Champions League (CL) when they defeated former champions Renown by 2-1. It was a remarkable victory and biggest ever for the Up Country boys. With this victory they answered all critics who under estimated the out station teams inclusion in the CL.

They opened the scoring at the 36th minutes with a stunner which beat goal keeper Sathis to make it 1-0. On resumption the game was very competitive and at the 86th minute Up Country scored again to make it 2-0. Renown scored their only goal during the latter part of the game when M. Fasal netted for them to make it 2-1.

Solid win against Kalutara Park

Kalutara Park could not match the game plan of Solid and they lost heavily to Anuradapura boys with a bigger margin 4-0. For Solid it was a good win in their home town and the team is making a huge impact on the DCL with two Solid wins and a draw making seven points in three matches.

Don Bosco in hard fought win against Pelicans

Don Bosco who traveled to Kurunegala, had a tough game agains Kurunegala team even when they were leading 2-0 at lemons, After the break the Pelicans gave a strong attacking display making 2-1 at the 70th minute but could not find the net again against the much experienced Don Bosco defense line.

Blue Star glitter bright

Blue Star kept their thousands of fans in a happy mood when they beat Saunders 1-0 at Kalutara.

So the Saunders will have to perform better specially their strikers if they want to be a match winning team .

Matara City hold Air Force

Matara City managed to draw the third match against much fancied teams like Negombo Youth, Saunders and drew with Air Force for a score less draw. The Air Force goal keeper saved an almost certain goal to prevent the defeat for them.

Super Sun hold fancied Java Lane

The Beruwala minnows gave a spirited display of soccer in City League grounds when they held Java Lane 1-1.

It was Sarvan who opened the score at the second minute to make it 1-0 for Java Lanae.

But the Beruwala boys came back to the game with an aggressive attacking playing style which resulted in Ysuf scoring at the 60th minute to make it 1-1 draw.

The Super Sun almost missed two sitters and had they converted them, would have caused one of the biggest upsets in the Dialog League.

Colombo FC draw with Ratnams

Colombo FC too had a good game against the defending champions Ratnams and they drew 2-2 .

They were leading up to the last 10 minutes and then EB Channa the senior player for Ratnams crossed for a converted goal by Tharusha to make it 2-2.

Two more draws

Negombo Youth after dominating through out the game los their grip at the last minute when Nevy’s veteran Ratnayeka scored for Navy saving the game for sailors. Meanwhile Police recovered from the early set back managed a draw against Nandimittra at the Police Park on Saturday.
