Brothers drown

Two brothers drowned while bathing in the Deduru Oya in Pallama on Sunday evening.

D W Aditha Udayange, 22, and his brother D W Nipuna Rasanjana, 18, of Magurankadawala, Pallama died in the incident.

They were bathing near the Watupola pump house with some friends when they faced the mishap.

Meanwhile, two persons riding a motorcycle died when the motorcycle collided with a lorry at Mailambawali in Eravur.

P K T Mohammad Thaheer, 25, and A L Mohommad, 32, of Eravur faced the mishap when they attempted to overtake another vehicle.

Eravur Police launched a search operation to arrest the lorry driver who fled in the vehicle after the accident.

Bodies found

Meegalewa Police found the body of a man in a shrub in Weeragolla, Meegalewa following a call received on 119. He was identified as J M Herath Banda,75, of the same area.

Meanwhile, Police found the body of a 43-year-old man floating in Mahaweli Ela in Walgamwewa. The autopsy revealed that the cause of his death as suffocation.

Dambulla Police are investigating.

Illegal weapons seized

Ampara Police found four 12 bore shot guns abandoned under a tree in Morawil Aru, Ampara on Sunday.

Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, Uragasmanhandiya Police arrested a suspect with a foreign made 16 bore shot gun. The suspect also had four bullets in his possession at Udumulla.

The 32-year-old suspect, a resident of Kirimatiyawa was remanded until May 29.

Three arrested with sambur meat and weapons

Three suspects were arrested with 26.500 kilos of sambur meat, a 12 bore shot gun, three bullets, six empty bullets, a cartridge holder and torch while traveling in a three wheeler in Ambewela, Nanu Oya on Sunday night.

They were produced before the Nanu Oya magistrate yesterday.

Man hit by train

A 40-year-old man died after being hit by a train near the Uruwala railway crossing on the Kelaniwali railway line.

The train was plying from Colombo to Awissawella on Sunday night.

B Chaminda of Ambalangda died in the incident.

The body was sent to the Awissawella hospital morgue for a post-mortem.

Earlier the same day, a man was hospitalised when a car collided with a train plying from Colombo to Maharagama at the unguarded railway crossing at Sri Devananda road, Navinna.

Two others in the car including the driver escaped unhurt.

Maharagama Police are investigating.
