The Sariputhra Bikshu Sansadaya
handed over dry ration parcels among 130 members of
the public aged over 70. The dry ration parcels were handed
over at the sub post office
premises in Handapangoda, Ingiriya. Ven Handapangoda
Jinasiri Thera of Jinaratanarama
Temple, Arakawila, Padukka was the chief organiser.
Lekhakadhikari of Padukka Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandala and
chief incumbent of Mahingala Sanghikaramaya, Ven
Barandigampola Hemawasa Thera, chief incumbent of
Meeriyagalla Selawanaramaya, Ven Namaloya Indrasara Thera

External Affairs Minister Professor G
L Peiris had discussions with representatives of all public
sector institutions involved in preparations for the
Business Forum which will be held on the sidelines of the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Colombo
in November. Project proposals were identified and
appropriate measures discussed to enhance participation by
entrepreneurs of the highest stature from more than 70
countries. Business Chambers from a number of countries
outside the Commonwealth are also being invited. The
Chairpersons of 23 Committees responsible for a range of
activities connected with the Business Forum took part in
the meeting at the External Affairs Ministry. The Business
Forum in Colombo will highlight opportunities for trade,
investment and tourism in Sri Lanka at this time. |

The Centre for Islamic Studies
(Ladies Wing) held the Islamic Competitions Awards Ceremony
at the Marine Grand Reception Hall, Marine Drive, Colombo 6
where students from several schools, madrasas and orphanages
participated. Hassan Shazuli of Zahira College won the first
place in the Qiraat competition (Intermediate category). The
Chief Guest was Investment Promotion Deputy Minister Faiszer
Mustapha. The guest speaker
was Jezima Ismail. Among the invitees were M H Mohamed and

Lean manufacturing, lean enterprise,
or lean production, often simply, “Lean,” is a production
practice that considers the expenditure of resources for any
goal other than
the creation of value for the end customer to be wasteful,
and thus a target for elimination. Working from the
perspective of the customer who consumes a product or
service, “value” is defined as any action or process that a
customer would be willing to pay for. Ashini Segera is the
first Sri Lankan female to receive the Lean practitioner
green belt award. Here she receives the award from president
