Traders have confidence in the administration of the Municipal
Council, he said. As a result of the streamlining, revenue relating to
trade license has considerably increased, he said.
The Mayor said so at a meeting at the Council auditorium recently, to
review the progress of the revenue of the Municipal Council in
collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial
Councils with the financial assistance of the Australian Government and
the Asia Foundation.
He said after being appointed as the Mayor, the administration has
been streamlined and work is carried out smoothly.
He said earlier the registration of trade license was issued in a
haphazard manner and that this has now been rectified and regularized.
The Mayor thanked the Asia Foundation for its assistance rendered
regarding trade license revenue. Asia Foundation Programme Officer M. I.
M. Valeeth said there had been a considerable increase in the revenues
of the Council at present when compared with revenues collected of past
periods.
Revenues relating to stamp duties during 2008, 2009 and 2010 were
collected by Dr. Siraz Meerasahib during 2011 and 2012 due to his
untiring efforts. Even in the case of collecting assessment tax, people
are interested in settling their dues. As a result, the fixed deposit of
the Council has increased to Rs 3 million.
Professors of the UK Sussex University Michael More and Wilson
Bridget who participated at this discussion congratulated the Council
Mayor for his efficiency and achievements.
Senior technical advisor of the Asia Foundation A. Subakaran,
