Arts, literature thrive in peaceful atmosphere - President

Arts and literature develop only when there is peace in the country.
Therefore, this is the most opportune time to concentrate on as the
country enjoys peace and harmony, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa
yesterday.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was bestowed the title of Suru
Viru Hela Deranisuru Sura Weera Sri Lanka Daranishwara” in
appreciation of his great services to the country by
eliminating terrorism and to the arts by the Ruhunu Kala
Haula at the 65th anniversary of the Ruhunu Kala Haula and
“Dakshina Lanka Sampoojana Ceremony” held at the Temple

The President made this observation at the 65th anniversary of the
Ruhunu Kala Haula and "Dakshina Lanka Sampoojana Ceremony" held in
appreciation of artistes in the Ruhuna, at Temple Trees.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa was bestowed with the honorary title of "Suru
Viru Hela Deranisuru Sura Weera Sri Lanka Daranishwara" in appreciation
of his great services to the country.
The President said artistes can express their thoughts and creations
without fear as the country steps in to a new era after the elimination
of three decades of terrorism.
The President said there were periods when artistes were killed even
before their creations saw the light of day. He added that that culture
of fear does not exist today.
President Rajapaksa also stated that the President's House is no
stranger to artistes.
They are always welcome and was a pleasure to meet the artistes of
the Ruhuna at this ceremony.
He added that Ruhuna Kala Haula president Gunasekara has rendered a
great service for artistes and the Venerable monks too have contributed
in a great manner to the development of arts and literature. |
