Rains to continue

Showers or thundershowers are likely in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces today, a spokesman for the Department of Meteorology said. Heavy rainfall is also likely at some places while showers or thundershowers will develop at a few places elsewhere during the afternoon or evening.

There may be temporary localised fairly strong winds during showers, the spokesman said.

Matale recorded 47.7 mm of rain, Ratnapura 37.1 mm with thunder showers while Colombo recorded a rainfall of 16.2 mm.

Ratmalana recorded 32.2 mm of rain and Monaragala 16.1 mm of rain.

Batticaloa recorded a temperature of 33 celsius at around noon yesterday while Nuwara Eliya recorded the lowest temperature. Heavy fog was also reported in Badulla.

Normal weather prevailed in Anuradhapura, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Katugastota, Kurunegala, Maha Illuppallama Mannar, Puttalam , Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Polonnaruwa.
