A mountain of evidence against ex-CJ

Former Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake who is facing bribery and
corruption allegations before the Commission to Investigate Allegations
of Bribery and Corruption appeared before the Commission yesterday and
made oral submissions.
The commission will next summon witnesses to record evidence
regarding the allegations of bribery and corruption proffered against
her. The Commission recorded oral submissions from the ex-Chief justice
for a duration of nearly five hours yesterday.
After investigating the submissions made by her, the Commission will
summon her for further submissions if necessary only.
The Commission has received a Mountain of evidence against
Bandaranayake and witnesses will be called regarding them in the future.
If any persons were needed to establish the submissions made by
Bandaranayake before the Commission, it will also summon them to give
evidence.
The investigation is conducted by a team of Bribery and Corruption
Investigators under the supervision of Director of Investigations
Lakshmi Jayawickrama. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of
Bribery and Corruption is headed by Retired Supreme Court Judge Jagath
Balapatabendi. |
