Annual Science Day of The British School in Colombo:
Curiosity!
Creating enthusiasm for science took top billing at the annual
Science Day of The British School in Colombo which was held at the
school recently.
For the eager children it was a day to remember because they enjoyed
a wide range of practical science experiments throughout the whole day.
The main objective of the event was to raise awareness of science and
encourage children to be “scientists” for the day.
The most significant feature in this year’s Science Day was that all
events were conducted under a common theme titled ‘Flora,’ who is a
famous character in school books to promote science.
In fact all the children were given the opportunity to create
something with ‘Flora’ and her expeditions.
In addition, an inter house quiz competition was also something new
that provided the children with more opportunities to participate in the
events, which has been a general theme of The British School in Colombo.
In fact, this pupil-centered teaching method is a hallmark of British
Education and ensures that effective learning takes place because the
pupils are actively involved all the time in their learning.
The ultimate goal in organising such an event is to cultivate
interest among children and to improve their understanding of science.
Through this approach to learning science, The British School aims to
produce students who are genuine scientists and who achieve world class
examination results.
