Trident expands CSR initiatives

Trident Corporation (Pvt.) Ltd., the flagship Company of Thakral Group in Sri Lanka has gone much deeper than the acts of 'charity' in aligning its business operations with sustainable social values.


The Free Health Clinic initiative being presented to elderly residents.

The support for the selected individuals or establishments is provided in many forms such as free medical consultation by a professional physician, free medication for diabetes, sugar and pressure which are common among the ageing population, free transport for the patients from the establishments to the close by General Hospital to attend regular clinics, free laboratory tests in collaboration with state or private accredited laboratories and basic medical facilities such as immunization, eye care and oral health through a continuous development programme.

The First Free Health Clinic under this initiative was conducted on April 20 for residents of Grace Perera Home for Elders and the Sri Senarath Children Development Centre. The home was established in 1964 with the financial contributions of late Grace Perera, J .Graham Bell Trust and the land donated by the late Mayor L. V. Gunarathna of Mount Lavinia Municipal Council. As at date it provides home to 42 females, 4 males and 25 children with a 9 member staff attending to their daily needs.

Most patients had Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, some were hypertensive and patients were dyslipidemic as well. The blood pressure of all patients was taken, and a capillary Random Blood sugar record of the inmates who attended was done. Some had levels as high as 400mg/dl, this was due to improper and inadequate use of medication or in some cases an absence of consumption of medication

As part of its long term vision to deliver sustainable CSR projects to benefit the society the company wishes to expand its Health Care initiative into many establishments in need of basic health care. In 2011 the company donated 35 Lenovo High Performance Desktop computers to help set up the computer lab at Mahinda Rajapakse Vidyalaya and provided computer lessons to the children to create an enthusiastic and creative future for the children.
