Religious discourse
Ad-Diayathush Shazuliyathul Fassiya of Sri Lanka will conduct a
religious discourse and spiritual ways of life today after Isha prayers
at Al-Madrasathul Falooliya, Megoda Kolonnawa, Wellampitiya. Moulavi
Alhaj Abdul Hameed will speak on 'What is Thareequa' followed by Halara
Zikhr Majlis.
Vesak programme
The annual Vesak pinkama of the Sri Mahindaramaya, Maradana,
organised by the Vihara Dayaka Sabha in association with the staff and
student society of the Sri Mahindarama Daham Pasala will be held from
May 23 to 25.
Viharadhipati Ven. Mapalane Dhammaloka Adhikarana Sanghanayke Thera
of Nava Korale and Nawa Totamune said the programme will include Atavisi
Buddha Pooja at 5.30 pm daily with the participation of Daham Pasala
students. The programme on Vesak Poya Day begins with a mass sil
campaign at 6 am. The day's highlights will include a series of
Dhammadesana, Meditation, Dhamma discussions, release of 25 head of
cattle destined for slaughter at 5.30 pm and an atavisi Buddha pooja at
6 pm.
The programme will conclude with a Vesak Bhakti Gee recital by Daham
Pasala students at 7 pm.
Malini Seneviratne passes away
Malini Seneviratne (N.B.D. Seneviratne) former Principal of Galle
Sangamiththa Balika Vidyalaya and Rippon Balika Vidyalaya passed away on
May 14 and the funeral will take place today at 4.30 pm at the Galle
Samanala grounds. Cortege will leave her residence at No. 4, Alapalawa
road, Wakwella at 3.00 pm.
She was the beloved wife of late Norton Dias Seneviratne (Former
Commercial Manager of SLPA, Colombo). She is a well known social worker
in Galle and had held many positions in the Lions Club.
A past pupil of Sacred Heart Convent, Galle and a graduate of the
Peradeniya University (1959), she was a former President of Lions Club
of Galle and a Charter President of Gaalupura Central Lions Club. She
was also a member of the Lions' Cabinet and was the Zone Chairperson.
She retired from the Government service in 1995 as the Principal of
Sangamiththa Balika Vidyalaya.
She rendered yeoman services as a past President of Southern Centre
for Disabled and was a member of the advisory committee to the Galle
Mayor. Her social services to the Galle district, especially for
children's welfare and education were prominent and she has also served
as a member of the advisory committee to Galle Municipal Council's
library, day care centre and sewing centre for the last 20 years.
She leaves behind her four sons and only daughter. She was 78 years
old at the time of her demise.
Amarakonge Heenhami dies
Amarakonge Heenhami (Amarasinghe Mathawa) mother of Amarasinghe
Kudagalara, Director President's office expired on Thursday, May 16
(yesterday). She was 93 at the time of her death. Funeral will be held
on Saturday May 18 at 3.00 p.m.
Death of Leelawathi Perera
Social worker Leelawathi Perera passed away yesterday. She was 84.
She was a mother of six.
Remains are lying at 583/6, Negombo Road, Wattala (next to the
Wattala Police Station). She is the mother-in-law of Shelton Rodrigo,
senior translator, Advertising Branch of ANCL.
The funeral takes place at the Mabola Roman Catholic Cemetery on May
18 (tomorrow).
