Standard guideline for vegetarian food
Disna Mudalige
A public forum to set a Standard Guideline for vegetarian claims in
food and beverage will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Standards
Institution on May 22, Technology, Research and Atomic Energy Ministry
sources said.
Vegetarian food manufacturers, restaurant owners, vegetarians and
interested people are invited to participate in this meeting to obtain
public comments on the content in the proposed draft. There is a special
group of people among us who consume vegetarian food and beverages due
to various reasons such as social and religious beliefs, kindness to
animals, environmental safety, personal health
and well being. Their intentions are often not served due to the
absence of proper standards on preparation and selling of vegetarian
food. Understanding this gap, the SLSI is presently working to introduce
standard guideline for vegetarian food. The public forum will be held at
the SLSI premises in Alvitigala Mawatha, Colombo 8 from 2.30pm onwards. |
