To fight conspiratorial elements:
'Time has come to re-enact A. E. Gunasinghe's revolutionary
struggle'
The time has come for every Sri Lankan to reenact the revolutionary
struggle of the late A. E. Gunasinghe to fight conspiratorial elements
which are for a pot of porridge endeavouring to de-stabilize the legally
elected government allured by dollars received by them from Western
powers Parliamentarian and Parliament Council Member A. H. M. Azwer
said.

Azwer was speaking at the A.E. Gunasinghe commemoration meeting held
at Saunder's Court, Pettah recently Ranjith Maddumabandara, MP,
delivered the memorial speech. Kadiragonna.
Labour Party President Vijitha Kadiragoona Presided Colombo Mayor A.
J. M. Muzammil garlanded the E. A. Gunasinghe statue. Deputy Mayor Titus
Perera was also present.
Azwer said Mahathma Gandhi started his anti-colonial agitation by
staging the Salt Yatra at Thandi, India and started his Sathyagraha
Movement asking the whiteman to leave his country. Similarly, Labour
Leader A. E. Gunasinghe refused to pay taxes to the then colonial regime
and courted arrest and thereby signaled the departure of white rulers
from Ceylon, he said.
If A. E. Gunasinghe was living today, he would have definitely joined
forces with President Mahinda Rajapaksa to rid the country from
conspiracies hatched through foreign elements.
The great Muslim leader Dr. T. B. Jayah and A. E. Gunasinghe, though
bitterly fought against each other at the elections in Colombo Central,
they had something in common, that is both were anti imperialist in word
and deed and they were friends of the poor and proletariats, and both
were fiercely patriotic towards, their motherland. They both gave the
correct guidance and leadership for Sinhalese and Muslims to chart out
their future course of action and fight against all forces that are
inimical to the sovereignty of our country, Azwer said.
Wheelchairs and other items were distributed among the disabled
people at the Commemoration meeting.
