Battle of the in-laws almost turns fatal

A person who allegedly tried to kill an elderly couple by crashing his jeep into them was arrested by Police yesterday. The incident took place in the Kuda Maduwa area in Piliyandala.

The arrested person who was attacked by angry residents was removed to the Kalubowila hospital under Police guard.

According to police the suspect is alleged to have attempted to assault his wife and she had crept under the bed to escape him.

The terrified wife had then called her parents over her mobile phone while remaining under the bed.

The alarmed parents rushed to their daughter's home in a motorcycle but could not complete the journey due to a breakdown in the motorcycle.

The son-in-law however had come to the spot where the breakdown occurred in his jeep and tried to ram the vehicle into the elderly couple. Following their complaint the suspect was arrested while the elderly couple was admitted to the Wetara hospital.

Investigations are continuing.
