University of Moratuwa reign supreme

University of Moratuwa defeated 13 universities to emerge overall
champions at the 11th Sri Lanka University Games 2013 concluded at UoM
grounds on Sunday. It was a double crown for the hosts with the men's
championship and also thier maiden crown in SLUG history. They secured a
total of 321.5 points to top the points table while Univeristy of
Colombo were placed second for their 312 points. Univeristy of Sri
Jayawardenapura secured the third place by collecting 288.5 points.

Univerisy of Colombo emerged runner up in the men's category while
proudly claiming the Championship of the Women’s category. University of
Kelaniya snatched the second place in the same category. UoSJP won third
places in both men's and women's categories.
On the final day Univeristy of Moratuwa emerged men's chess champions
while University of Colombo won the women's category.UoM were placed
second and UoSJP secured the third place. The female athletes of UoSJP
sweated to secure them the second place while hosts came behind to
secure the third place .
Meanwhile University of Sri Jayawardenapura won the track and field
men's and women's championships thant paved way to grab the overall
track and field championship to make the final day a celebrating one for
them. The hosts secured the second place in track and field men's
category and Sabaragamuwa University won the women’s category.
University of Peradeniya won the third place in both categories.
The closing ceremony was held at the University of Moratuwa grounds,
under the patronage of Minister of Higher Education, S. B. Dissanayake,
as the chief guest and in the presence of the Vice Chancellor of the
University of Moratuwa Prof. Ananda Jayawardena, the President of Sri
Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA) Prof. Sohan Wijesekara,
various other dignitaries, the SLUG organizing committee and the
athletes of the 14 competing universities. |
