Programme held to educate student traffic wardens

A workshop and seminar were held by the Matara Police Traffic Unit at
Matara District Secretariat Auditorium to educate the student traffic
wardens from 50 schools in the Matara District about traffic control and
traffic rules.
This workshop was held under the patronage of the Southern Province
DIG Chandana Wickramaratne, Matara District Secretary W K K Athukorala,
Matara SSP Deshabandu Tennakoon and the Chief IP of the Matara Traffic
Police Headquarters Rasika Ratnayake.
"We cannot prevent death occurring due to natural disasters. But we
can prevent road accidents by obeying traffic laws. "Today road
accidents are increasing at an alarming rate due to not obeying of
traffic laws and reckless driving - pedestrians also must be extra
cautious when crossing roads we must try to minimize the road accidents.
Police officers, drivers - pedestrians and students should come
foreword to minimize road accidents. About 85 percent the accidents are
caused due to negligence of road users and 15 percent due to dilapidated
road conditions Rasika Ratnayake - the Chief IP of the Matara Traffic
Police Headquarters said. "We have organized this seminar to protect our
future generation. We have deployed a team of police officers who work
round the clock to minimize road accidents.
The students who receive this training should take steps to prevent
road accidents from tomorrow.

student traffic wardens.
