Seven schools in Beruwela to be upgraded

Arrangements are in place to upgrade seven schools in the Beruwela electorate as top level schools under the '1,000 Schools Development Programme' launched by the Education Ministry, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.

The government has taken several measures to improve the standards of both primary and secondary education. Plans are underway to provide qualified teachers and physical resources useful to students for their academic activities, the minister said. He said the government has also provided facilities for students to take part in sports and other extracurricular activities to create a talented future generation by developing students' skills and hidden talents.

Addressing a special programme at Massala Primary School, the minister said the government decided to develop 1,000 secondary schools in the country.

“The Education Ministry planned to develop two schools in each electorate. However, Beruwela electorate has received an opportunity to develop seven schools in the area,” he said.

Arrangements are in place to develop the seven schools and establish Mahindodaya laboratories in each school. The laboratories will include IT labs, science labs, language labs and Mathematics lab. The laboratories will help students gain knowledge in the modern technologies, Minister Senaratne said.

The minister participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for the establishment of the new Massala Primary School after addressing the students, teachers and parents.
