Seven schools in Beruwela to be upgraded

Arrangements are in place to upgrade seven schools in the Beruwela
electorate as top level schools under the '1,000 Schools Development
Programme' launched by the Education Ministry, Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.
The government has taken several measures to improve the standards of
both primary and secondary education. Plans are underway to provide
qualified teachers and physical resources useful to students for their
academic activities, the minister said. He said the government has also
provided facilities for students to take part in sports and other
extracurricular activities to create a talented future generation by
developing students' skills and hidden talents.
Addressing a special programme at Massala Primary School, the
minister said the government decided to develop 1,000 secondary schools
in the country.
“The Education Ministry planned to develop two schools in each
electorate. However, Beruwela electorate has received an opportunity to
develop seven schools in the area,” he said.
Arrangements are in place to develop the seven schools and establish
Mahindodaya laboratories in each school. The laboratories will include
IT labs, science labs, language labs and Mathematics lab. The
laboratories will help students gain knowledge in the modern
technologies, Minister Senaratne said.
The minister participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for
the establishment of the new Massala Primary School after addressing the
students, teachers and parents.
