Udayan was mum when LTTE banished Muslims from North
Ridma Dissanayake and Rakshana Sriyantha
The arrest of Azad Salley who stood for devolution of power is an act
that they find difficult to come to terms with, the TNA has stated
according to the Udayan Newspaper. He (Salley) had participated in their
agitation in Tellipallai giving strength to the campaign, Udayan quoted
TNA Parliamentarian Mavai Senadhiraja as saying.
The TNA through Udayan has clearly attempted to drive a wedge between
the Tamil and Muslim conmmunities ".
The pro-Tiger TNA that is talking about forging unity among Tamils
and Muslims today, did not utter even a single word when the Muslims
were summarily banished from the North during the war. The TNA approved
and condoned all the doings of the LTTE and they did not follow such a
human-friendly concept towards Muslims during the war period.
Any TNA member of Parliament today or any journalist of "Uthayan" did
not utter a whimper on the atrocities committed by the LTTE against the
Muslims of the North, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Director
General Lakshman Hulugalle said.
"Azad Salley has made a statement to an Indian magazine that the
Muslims in Sri Lanka have no other option but to take to arms . This
statement can create enmity in Muslims among the majority community and
destroy the hard won peace in the country, " he added.
Hulugalle said that a majority of the Muslims are with the government
and Muslim countries in the world have also supported Sri Lanka to
overcome International problems. "The government pays equal attention to
Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims at all times. At present President Mahinda
Rajapaksa has created a peaceful environment in Sri Lanka and peace and
harmony among all Sri Lankans. In such a situation attempts to sow
communal hatred should be deplored, " he further explained.
