Cyclone moving away

The tropical cyclone in the South west Bay of Bengal was centered about 650 kms to the North-East of Trincomalee yesterday. It was predicted that it was likely to move away from the island in a northward direction.

The coastal areas extending from Jaffna to Hambantota via Batticaloa

experienced strong winds, rough conditions and intermittent rain yesterday, Disaster Management Centre sources said. Fairly strong (60kms per hour) South-westerly winds was experienced over Sri Lanka and the neighborhood. Intermittent rain was reported in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts.

Heavy rainfalls of more than 200mm were recorded. Wet weather was also reported from Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Eastern and Southern provinces.
