Illegal fishing nets, boats seized in Batticaloa

Illegal fishing nets and seven fishing boats valued at over Rs
700,000 were seized at Mandoor lagoon in the Batticaloa district by the
Batticaloa District Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development
Department Inspection Unit officers on Sunday.

Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development District Deputy Director
D George said the raid was led by Fisheries District Inspector J
Rajkumar.
The inspection unit comprised fisheries inspectors T Amirthalingam, V
Manojraj, T Balamugunthan, M S Nibras Mohamed and S Ganeshamoorthy.
Sources said the owners of these items were to be produced before
courts.
Illegal nets valued at Rs 1.34 million were seized at the same place
last year.
