Elderly woman's death suspicious

The Padukka Police commenced an investigation into the death of a 68 -year-old woman whose body was found in the living room of her house at Mawathagama, Padukka on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as N U Kamala. Investigations are continuing.

Road mender killed by roller

A man knocked down by a roller while working at a road renovation project in Aluthgamara succumbed to injuries at Tanamalwila hospital on Monday.

Twenty one-year-old G G Chamara of Dambulla died while working on the road with other workers on Tanamalwila - Sooriyawewa road at Aluthgamara.

Police arrested the driver of the roller. Investigations continue.

Chain snatcher arrested

Mount Lavinia Police arrested a suspect on a tip-off, with a Rs 75,000 worth gold chain snatched from a woman in Katuwana on Monday.

The 26-year-old suspect, a resident of Ratmalana had reached the woman in a three wheeler while she was walking along the road.

The suspect was produced before the Mount Lavinia magistrate yesterday.
