Two use backhoe to dig dagoba

Two suspects digging a dagoba in Namaluwa Hulannuge Ancient Temple in Siyambalanduwa were arrested by Siyambalanduwa Police on Sunday.

Police, acting on information, arrived at the scene and arrested the suspects while they were digging the dagoba, an ancient ruin in the temple, using a backhoe loader.

They were produced before Monaragala Magistrate Court yesterday.

Woman caught fire in kitchen

A woman in Modara, who was caught in a fire erupted in her kitchen, died yesterday morning. S Wijelakshi, 47, of Walles Lane, Modara, died in the incident. Modara Police are investigating. Meanwhile, another 45 year old woman died when she was hit by a train plying from Chilaw to Colombo in Wennappuwa. She was a resident of South Mirissankotuwa.

The body was sent to Marawila hospital morgue for the post-mortem. Wennappuwa Police are investigating.

Thee arrested with fire arms

The Mirihana Special Operation Unit and Akuressa Police on Sunday arrested three persons with a 12 bore shot gun and two muzzle loading guns. One was arrested at Aramanagolla on information received by Police. The other two were apprehended at Kiyaduwa in Akuressa while they were transporting the muzzle loading guns. They were produced before respective magistrate courts yesterday.
