The Labuduwa Paddy Research has invented two novel strains of paddy.
According to paddy researchers they have been named LD -3 - 12 - 50 red
samba and LD-3 - 6 -12 white samba and have been released for
cultivation.
From each of these paddy varieties, 80 to 100 bushels can be
harvested through the successful cultivation in an acre of land in the
Wet Zone. The strains are also resistant to paddy pests and insect
diseases and are in demand as they are popular among paddy cultivators,
researchers said.
