Celebrating Korean-Lankan friendship
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Culture and Arts Ministry
will co-organize the ‘Korea –Sri Lanka Friendship Evening’ at the Nelum
Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa theatre on April 25 and 26 at 6 pm.
The event celebrates the first anniversary of the state visit of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Korea. In addition, the Korean tele-drama,
‘Jewel in the Palace’ (Jang Geum - Sujatha Diyani) recently became
extremely popular in Sri Lanka. This shows that there is a new
opportunity to enhance relations between the two countries. The Korean
government believes that this cultural event and many upcoming exchanges
between the two countries will promote friendship and strengthen the
ties between Korea and Sri Lanka.
Who will be performing?
The performances will be by Jinjo Crew and Queen. Jinjo Crew is a
globally recognized break dance team, which is currently ranked number 1
in the world. They have made a grand slam of all five of the world’s
greatest b-boy major leagues; Red Bull BC one 2008, battle of the year
2009, free style session 2011, R-16 Korea 2010,2011,2012 and UK b-boy
championship 2012.
Queen is a female fusion Gukak (traditional Korean music) band that
combines sounds of East and West. They will take you along a musical
journey from traditional Korean music to the modern k pop with their
very unique musical instruments such as Geomungo (traditional Korean
harp), Haekum (traditional Korean musical instrument-strings) and
electric violin.
A welcome act will be performed by a dance troupe from the Ministry
of Culture and the Arts of Sri Lanka.
