At a special ceremony held under the patronage of Minister of Higher Education, S. B. Dissanayake, students from across the country who scored the highest at the GCE Advanced Level examination in the commerce streams were awarded full scholarships under the 'top 10' scholarship category by the institute.

Students who were adjudged district first in the commerce stream from Anuradhapura, Hambantota, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Puttalam, Ratnapura and Vavuniya districts were also awarded CA Sri Lanka scholarships. A scholarship was also granted under the special category to a student from the Colombo district.

The awarding of scholarships for top AL students was initiated in 2002 under the institute's corporate social responsibility initiative.

CA Sri Lanka President Sujeewa Rajapakse emphasized that the Institute as the national body of accountants and as one of the leading tertiary education providers in the country strives to ensure that students immaterial from where or from which financial background are given an equal opportunity to embark on a fulfilling professional career.

"Our institute attracts the best and brightest of students from commerce as well as non-commerce fields, and the scholarship is an effort aimed at fortifying the student potential we attract on an annual basis to our institute," he added.

Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka Aruna Alwis noted that the CA Sri Lanka qualification is among the most highly recognized accountancy qualifications in Sri Lanka which has produced over 4300 chartered accountants who excel in their professional careers.

"The scholarship programme is an excellent opportunity to help groom the minds of the brightest of students to be successful accounting professionals in the years to come," he added.
