HNB Assurance wins first place at SAFA Awards

HNB Assurance PLC, the innovative Insurance solutions Provider in Sri Lanka has brought honour to the nation by winning the most coveted South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) award for Best presented Annual report in the insurance sector at the SAFA awards ceremony recently held in Colombo under the distinguished patronage of DrNalakaGodahewa, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka.

The SAFA is an Apex Body of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) and the Regional Grouping of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), which represents over 170,000 accountants who are members of national chartered accountancy and cost and management accountancy institutions in South Asia.

HNB Assurance has done exceptionally well to have won this prestigious SAFA Award among a total of 85 Awards of which Sri Lanka won 26 Awards while the remaining prizes were shared between companies from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. HNB Assurance was one out of just 5 Sri Lankan companies who won their respective sectors at this prestigious competition.

HNB Assurance has been awarded for its mission of promoting transparency and accountability and for promoting better accounting and auditing standards in the SAARC Region and this award is a great tribute to the excellent teamwork and dedication of people at all levels as well as to our customers and shareholders who have placed their confidence in the company Stated Manjula de Silva, Managing Director of HNB Assurance.

Vipula Dharmapala, Head of Finance of HNB Assurance stated that. This is consecutively the fifth Annual Report Award that HNB Assurance PLC has won for its Annual Report 2011.

We won the Overall Excellence in Annual Financial Reporting - Bronze Award, Corporate Governance Disclosure - Bronze Award and won the Silver Award among other insurance companies at the Chartered Accountants Annual Report Awards 2011. Further,HNB Assurance also won the First place atACCA Sustainability Reporting Award for the medium scale category at the country’s pioneering Sustainability Reporting Awards organised by ACCA Sri Lanka which rewarded the country?s most transparent corporates.

In furtherance of the Company’s commitment to developing sustainability reporting, HNB Assurance registered as an Organizational Stakeholder of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in 2012 and has since been the only public quoted company in Sri Lanka to support the GRI mission by becoming a stakeholder.
