Amcham's Intellectural property rights awareness campaign gets under way

The second IPR enforcer education initiative by the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (AMCHAM), commenced on Monday, April 8, at the National Police Academy, Katana.

58 OICs of islandwide Special Crimes Investigations Bureaus, gathered for a five day residential diploma course on Intellectual Property Rights.

The course was being conducted by retired DIG and Attorney-at-Law, M K D W Amarasinghe and Deshan Hewavithana, Attorney-at-Law, Sudath Perera Associates, who are well versed in the subject of IP law.

Addressing the gathering, SSP Asanga Karawita thanked Vijaya Ratnayake, President, AMCHAM, for facilitating the Diploma course.

Vijaya Ratnayake, President AMCHAM, in his presentation, gave an insight into AMCHAM's activities and its involvement in carrying out islandwide public awareness programmes.

The objective of the campaign is to educate the public on the importance of buying genuine products and to generate an awareness in respect of counterfeits.

AMCHAM presently airs TV advertisements in all three languages on Sirasa, Shakthi and MTV Sports and carries out newspaper campaigns in all three languages in the Daily News, Dinamina and Veerakesari newspapers.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka, has taken a key role in the past and shall continue to do so in the future, to facilitate awareness and enforce the existing IPR law in Sri Lanka.
