Chavez's political ideology still relevant - Vasudeva

The political ideology of Comrade Hugo Chavaz based on socialist
concepts is relevant today than ever, National Languages and Social
Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara said. His action and ideas are
important to build a better future, he added.

He was addressing a ceremony held in memory of former Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez at the Russian Cultural Center, Colombo 7
recently. Sri Lanka - Cuban Friendship Society organized the event.
Human Resources Senior Minister D. E. W. Gunasekara said in 1995 when
Chavez came into power he stayed in Caracas for one night.
"That night was full in terrorism. He converted the destroyed country
into a peaceful one," he said.
He travelled around the world including Middle East countries, Africa
and Latin America and had a large number of followers, he said.
He criticised America and was a brave leader, he said.
The anti- capitalist and anti- imperialist struggle of Hugo Chavez is
a source of inspiration for all, Sri Lankan ambassador to Cuba Tamara
Kunanayakam said.
"We do not choose the period we live in. We must be able to rise to
the challenges of our times," she said.
"We need to cooperate with nations," she added.
Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardana and Senior
Minister for Scientific Affairs Tissa Vitharana also participated. |
