New Year invites society to think anew
According to Astrology, the New Year dawns with the sun moving from
the House of Mesha. Sri Lankan society awaits year by year with endless
hope this miraculous hour of the incessant circle of nature. New Year is
a joyous period which generates fresh feelings and thoughts within
young, old and elders, said Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya
Rambukwella issuing his New Year message.
The message adds: "New Year invites the society to think anew, to
start afresh, to wear new clothes and to revive relationships and the
wakening takes place in the society as a result would thereby succeed
the expectation of the Government to build up a new Sri Lanka.
The unique New Year rites continued from time immemorial and followed
in terms of religion and nationality are of utmost significance in
securing the civilization and the culture of Sri Lanka.
Even any developed nation could approve the universality of our rites
without an argument. Therefore, the pride of Sri Lanka is not second to
any other country.
New Year rites built up on a basis of ensuring the unity, harmony and
entertainment among each other strengthens the supremacy of the New Year
festival.
The Government, which ensured a free environment to celebrate this
cultural festival of the nation enjoyed by all countrymen in a grand
scale, aims at creating an economically-developed society.
It should be the duty of every Sri Lankan, who has endured 30 years
amidst moans and gunfire, to forget that bitter past and to take every
step to make sure not to witness such a situation ever again.
Even though New Year is fresh, if the thoughts and attitudes of man
are not freshened up, such society would never achieve development.
Let's contribute towards the forward march of the country with a new
vision. Let's ensure co-existence and virtues within the society.
I wish you all a joyous, peaceful and a prosperous New Year!" |
