Tank bund damaged

The tank bund of Tissapura Digawewa in Hambantota has been damaged, Mahaweli left bank chief engineer Thilakranasinghe said. He said a large extent of paddy fields have been destroyed as a result.

The Digawewa feeds 20 tanks. The engineer said the Digawewa is an extent of 11 acres. About 500 hectares of paddy fields are cultivated under this wewa.

World Water Day

World Water Day highlighting ‘Water Co-operation’ will be marked in Biyagama today. The series of events lined up are part of the Every Drop Matters (EDM) Project which is a partnership between the UNDP, Environment Ministry, Western Province Environment Ministry, Central Environment Authority, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Board of Investments and the Disaster Management Centre. A corporate sector workshop to improve the understanding of water quantity and quality issues will be held from 8.30 am to 11 am at Biyagama Village Hotel.

The foundation laying for the Bio Gas Facility as a way to process solid waste, waste water and toilet waste that otherwise harm the quality of water will be held at 11.30 am at Mawaramandiya Biyagama.
