Women in War Hero families honoured

Women belonging to War Heroes' families, including mothers and wives
of Security Forces personnel were honoured at a felicitation ceremony
titled Rana Liya Viru Mahima by the Ranaviru Seva Authority at Nelum
Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre yesterday.
The event to coincide with International Women's Day was held under
the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and Defence and Urban
Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The felicitation ceremony was held to recognise and honour the
sacrifice and support by mothers and wives of War Heroes and female
Security Forces personnel for the cause of liberating the country from
terrorism.
Sri Lanka Foundation chairman Prof Ranjith Bandara delivering the
keynote address, emphasised that sacrifices and contribution of women
belonging to War Hero families to the cause of saving the country from
terrorism, will go down in history.
He said Sri Lanka has a mother - centred society and the mothers
always plays a pivotal role in defining the country's course.
Ranaviru Seva Authority Chairperson Padma Wettewa also spoke.
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Defence Ministry Seva Vanitha Unit
Chairperson Ioma Rajapaksa, Kamala Ranatunge MP and other dignitaries
presented awards at the ceremony which also featured several cultural
events.
