The minister was addressing World Meteorological Day at the
Meteorological Department Auditorium yesterday.
Each year, this day falls on March 23. This year’s theme is
‘Attention towards weather for the protection of property and lives’.
The Meteorological Department will present weather reports as a joint
project with other neighbouring countries. This step is taken to provide
accurate weather forecasts, Minister Amaraweera said.
The minister said media personnel need to use simple language when
compiling weather reports for public convenience since this affects
their daily lives.
Meanwhile, Minister Amaraweera said Sri Lanka has got the opportunity
to show the world that it is capable of protecting all foreigners
visiting the island, including Indians, even though India has failed to
provide security for Sri Lankan tourists in India.
The minister said Indians visiting Sri Lanka can have a better
understanding about the activities carried out by the government to
develop the North and East.
