Singer Schools Rugby League kicks off on March 15

The Singer Schools Rugby League Tournament 2013 kicks off on March 15 with segment A encounters between St Peter’s College Vs St Anthony’s College at St Peter’s ground, Royal College Vs Science College at Royal Sports Complex and St Joseph’s College taking on Kingswood College at CR and FC.

On March 16, defending champions Isipathana College battle it out with Wesley College at 4.30pm at Royal Sports Complex while on the next day Trinity College faces Dharmaraja College at 4.30pm at Pallekele.

The league tournament consists of three divisions ( I, 2 and 3 ) will go on from today to May 4 between 73 teams including top 10 teams in division one segment A.

This was revealed at a press conference held at Galadari Hotel to officially launch the tournament and the signing of the sponsorship with Singer ( Sri Lanka ) PLC.

Ranjith Chandrasekara the president of Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association speaking at the occasion said that the latest edition of under 20 Schools Rugby Tournament featuring the skills and talents of the 1st 15 rugby players from nearly 75 schools will give an opportunity for spectators to witness nearly 300 matches in all divisions.

He said that during his tenure of office he did much to promote schools rugby and also helped the SLSRFA to function as an independent body.

The Marketing Director of Singer ( Sri Lanka ) PLC , Nasser Majeed addressing the gathering said that their hope is a competitive tournament where clean rugby is played. He also expressed their willingness to help the school rugby as long as fair play is brought into limelight.

The defending champions Isipathana college will try to retain their title this year while runners up Trinity College will strive to give a good fight to surpass them. Other teams in division 1 , segment A will also try their to give of their best and pose a serious challenge to Isipathana and Trinity this year.
