Navy stops illegal fishing activities

Sri Lanka Navy arrested six fishermen engaged in illegal fishing at Arishamalai Fishing Point. The naval troops attached to the Naval Deployment, Pulmudai of the Eastern Naval Command carried out this raid at Arishamalai Fishing Point.

They also seized six Fibre Glass Dingy Boats used for light course fishing.

Using light course in Sri Lankan territorial waters has been banned by the government due to its harms to the seabed and threat to the bio-diversity of the sea.

It has become a threat to the existence of fish as well.

The naval troops attached to the Eastern Naval Command also seized six generators, 105 litres of kerosene, 40 metres of wire and 15 power holders from the six fishermen.

They were handed over to Pulmudai Police for investigations.
