‘63 Entrants of the University of Ceylon:
Golden Jubilee celebrations in July
Celebrating the Golden Jubilee by the ’63 Entrants of the University
of Ceylon this year is a significant event as they have received their
education during a golden era of the University, said Central Province
Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
Addressing a gathering of the Alumni of the University of Ceylon
1960-1969 at the Governor’s Office in Kandy last Sunday, he said: “On
passing out, you served in varied professions no doubt holding high
positions. Thus, you have made a great contribution to the nation.”
He said: “After 50 years, you may be having many recollections of the
time you spent on the campus outside studies as well. Even songs have
been composed such as Rangamadalaki Sarasaviye, which shows the impact
campus had made on those who had gone through campus life.”
Alumni President Nimal Nanayakkara invited the Governor to
participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the ‘63 Entrants to be
held on July 14 at Mount Lavinia Hotel.
It will be participated by those who entered the University of Ceylon
from 1960-1969. Spouses are included.
Among the visitors will be professors, lecturers and well-wishers.
Awarding of 63 scholarships to needy undergraduates of the Peradeniya
University which includes 27 disabled undergraduates, is the highlight
of the Jubilee celebrations.
Mahinda Katugaha representing the Alumni Kandy Branch said many
Alumni members had held distinguished positions in a wide spectrum of
professions rendering a great service here and abroad.
