A’pura sugar cane project accelerated

The programme to establish a sugar factory and planting of sugar cane in the Anuradhapura district is being accelerated. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the relevant institutes to accelerate the sugar factory project and sugar cane

cultivation programme as a special development component under the Anuradhapura district development plan.

Sugar Industry Development Minister Lakshman Senevirante held discussions with the Anuradhapura district political authority members and the senior executives of the Ministry, the Economic Development Ministry headed by Anuradhapura Government Agent Mahinda Seneviratne on March 5.

About 700 acre is being demarcated at Kumbugollewa in Kahatagasdigiliya Divisional Secretariat division for the proposed sugar manufacturing factory.

It is learnt that around 100,000 farmer families in the 22 DS jurisdictions in the district will take to sugar cane cultivation.
