Seminar on Environmental Law
The Institute of Legal Studies and Management is organizing a seminar
on “Environmental Laws, Regulations and Issues” , to foster an informed
analysis of timely and significant issues involving governance and
regulation in environmental policy in Sri Lanka.
The Seminar will be held on March 22, at The Sri Lanka Foundation
Institute, Colombo 07, from 1 pm to 5 p.m .
Minister of Environment and Renewable Energy, Susil Premajayantha, MP
, would be the Chief Guest at the event. He is scheduled to speak on the
'role of the state with regard to environmental matters’.
Professor of Forestry and Environmental Science the University of Sri
Jayewardenepura, Hemanthi Ranasinghe, will speak on 'Forest and Natural
Resource Management, Biodiversity Conservation and Management, Waste
Management and Pollution Control and Sustainable Energy’.
Deputy Solicitor General, Arjuna Obeyesekera, will deliver a speech
on, 'some significant cases pertaining to the environment and the role
of executives and judiciaries in shaping environmental policy and
Criminal Prosecution and the role of the state with regard to
environmental matters’.
Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo, S.
Sarweswaran, will speak on the 'role of the National and International
Institutions, policies, relevant laws and regulations pertaining to the
Environment’.
There will also be an opportunity for the audience to interact with
the panelists.
This seminar will be beneficial for compliance officers in companies,
specially those involved in manufacturing and agriculture, lawyers,
students, the forces, NGO’s, relevant government departments and persons
interested in Environmental laws and policies and also sustainable
development.
