Halal issue: govt to consider all proposals

The government would consider each and every proposal with regard to the Halal certification issue and would intervene only at necessary points, Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Responding to a question by a journalist at the Cabinet press briefing at the ministry auditorium yesterday, the minister said the government is of the view that the problem would settle down on its own and the disputes need more time for simmering.

He said fears that it would lead to a religious clash are unwarranted, adding that the government ensures the issue would not come to a clashing point.

Rambukwella said the government expects both sides involved in this issue, would come to a settlement adding that the problem rose since the requirement for the export market was localised.
