The British School presents:
Fame – The Musical
Over 60 students of The British School (BSC) are preparing to perform
Fame - one of the most popular musicals in theater history, from March
21 to the 23 at the BSC Auditorium. The production is directed by Tracy
Holsinger and choreographed by Sureka Buell with newcomer Shamistha de
Silva handling musical direction.
Fame the musical was conceived and developed by David de Silva and
was first seen as a film in 1980, starring pop sensation Irene Cara. Her
stirring rendition of the title song Fame has endured to this day,
becoming a hit in contemporary popular culture. The stage musical
debuted in 1988 and has been staged many times the world over by
professional and amateur theatre companies.
The British School cast is led by talented young performer Roshani
Abbey, last seen in a noteworthy performance as ‘the young mistress’ in
The Workshop Players’ production of Evita last year. The lead roles
include Carmen (Roshani), Nick (Canishka de Silva), Serena (Malsa
Gaffoor), Tyrone (Thevin Degamboda) and Iris (Ravini Gunasekera). The
plot follows them and their peers through their triumphs and
tribulations at the highly prestigious Performing Arts High School in
New York.
Fame is highly challenging to any company of performers. Not only
does it require strong actors who are able to sing and dance, the entire
soundtrack has to be played live on stage, in this case, by the students
themselves.
Tickets are now available at the British School.
