Design for change

CMB volunteers, a group under the Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC) formed to reduce the alcohol and drug demand among youth are focusing on creating methods of drug prevention through innovative approaches.

CMB collaborated with three leading designer schools in Colombo to conduct a designer festival: Elixier ‘13-desgin for change Powered by CINEC.

Talented young designers from Raffles, Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) and University of Moratuwa took part in the competition and submitted their designs to the theme of Prevention slogans: awareness on alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention.

Themes for the competition

* I’m updated, smoking is outdated.

* I’m a party dancer, not a lousy drinker.

* I don’t smell, I don’t smoke.

* Who said alcohol is fun?

* Drinkers are outdated, occasionally drinkers are occasionally outdated.

The aim of this festival is to create awareness and to promote alcohol and tobacco prevention designs among the youth. 10 designers were provided by each participating institute and the most talented 12 designers were selected for the final round where judges will decide the winner.

The winner will receive a prize of Rs. 50,000. The second prize is Rs. 30,000 and the third prize is Rs 20,000. Rs 5000 will be received by each finalist. CINEC has partnered with the volunteers as the platinum sponsor. Achievers, Commercial Bank, Asian Allianz and Zsaid image’s are the other sponsors for the Elixier ‘13 which contributed to make the event a success.

Rozanne Dias has helped CMB by co-coordinating and making this even a success. The event will host the presence of celebrities, professionals in corporate sector and public figures from the fashion and media industry.

Workshops were held for all the young and talented fashion designers who were selected from LIFT, RAFFLES and UOM (University of Moratuwa)

The final twelve contestants were selected on 12 February. Rozanne Dias, Venuka Yasasri, Sidu Bashu and two representatives from ADIC were involved in the selection process.

The competition finale will be an extravagant event. Many celebrities, professionals and academic will grace the event. Elixier ‘13 will be held at the Park Street Mews on March 9 at 5pm.
