Batticaloa girl guides commemorating

Batticaloa girl guides commemorated "Thinking Day- 2013" at Mahajana
College auditorium, Batticaloa on February 22.
This day is the birth anniversary of Lord Baden and Lady Olave
Powell.
The portraits of both were garlanded and the guide song was sung with
lamps held in the hand. the differently abled guides did the welcome
dance. Other cultural items also took place.
The function was presided over by Eastern Province Girl Guide
Commissioner Delanthi Mohanakumar.
Awards and badges were presented to guide leaders and guides. Thanks
badges were presented to those who helped the Girl Guide movement in the
Batticaloa District.

Batticaloa Municipal Council Deputy Mayor A. Georgepillai and two
others were garlanded and presented with souvenirs to mark the occasion.
On this occasion money was collected for the movement.
At the symposium that followed the celebration, Senior Public Health
Inspector P. Manokaran said there is a high incidence of breast and
cervical cancer in Sri Lanka in the Batticaloa district.
He further explained that early detection of this was easy and is
curable at the early stages. Deputy Director Shamanthy Srithar, District
Commissioner Inthumathy Arulampalam, Zonal Commissioners, Girl Guides
for Batticaloa District and others were present.
