Samba rice stocks seized

Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) flying squad acting on the
instructions of Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston
Fernando have seized 25,000 kilograms Samba rice imported from India
during a surprise raid carried out in Old Moor Street.
The cost of the rice stock has been estimated at over Rs. four
million. Date of manufacture, date of expiry and the price were not
displayed on these rice packages.
The rice stock containing 1,000 packages with maximum weight limit of
25kg each did not indicate the date and year of manufacture, but
contains only the month of manufacture.
Meanwhile, the CAA is expected to take legal action against the
errant trader in connection with this illegal business.
