HNB Assurance wins ACCA sustainability awards

The Innovative insurance provider HNB Assurance won the ACCA Sustainability Reporting Award for the medium scale category at the country's pioneering Sustainability Reporting Awards organised by ACCA Sri Lanka which rewarded the country's most transparent corporates. This is the fourth award that the Company has won continuously for its Annual Report 2011. The awards are judged on global criteria developed by ACCA and are aligned to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines for sustainability reporting. This prestigious event was held at Cinnamon Grand Colombo recently.

Commenting on the company's success, Manjula de Silva, Managing Director of HNB Assurance said, "This is a remarkable achievement for HNB Assurance to have been honored for the sustainability initiatives performed throughout last year that has had a positive effect on all our stakeholders. Furthermore, Vipula Dharmapala, Head of Finance of HNB Assurance stated that "We are proud that HNB Assurance has just moved up to the medium scale category from the small scale category and has outperformed by winning among manyleading companies in Sri Lanka. In addition, HNB Assurance PLC also won the Overall Excellence in Annual Financial Reporting - Bronze Award, Corporate Governance Disclosure - Bronze Award and the Silver Award in Insurance Companies Sector at the Annual Report Awards 2012 organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka in December 2012". The objective of the sustainability reporting awards is to benchmark Sri Lanka's business houses, both in the large and SME segments against global reporting guidelines, encouraging them to act more accountably and with greater transparency, building on the trusses of sustainable development.
