Serendib Flour Mills to deliver in ‘tankers’
Clinches a cost-effective Sri Lankan first:
Serendib Flour Mills, manufacturers of Seven Star wheat flour
recently launched Sri Lanka’s first-ever ‘flour tanker,’ thereby giving
the transportation and delivery of flour a novel dimension.
“This 22 metric ton flour tanker enables us to deliver fresh Wheat
Flour straight from the mill, over any distance, to industries and other
biscuit manufacturers across the country.
This is also a very cost effective and environmentally friendly
exercise since the use of Poly Propylene (PP) bags is completely
eliminated. Since the entire process is fully automated, with no manual
handling, consumers are ensured of the quality of the flour”, said
CEO/Director of Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt) Ltd Sathak Abdul Kadar. “We
are, at present, supplying our clients in the Western and North Central
Provinces through tankers plying on a daily basis between Colombo and
other cities. Very soon this tanker will become a common site on Sri
Lankan roads. This has proved to be a very practical means of
distribution and is being favoured by more and more of our customers
across the country. The success of this method of direct delivery has
parallely spurred us to increase our supply to more such institutions
and industries across the country in the near future,” he added.
Serendib Flour Mills Pvt Ltd, a member of the Al Ghurair Group of
Companies, Dubai, UAE commenced distribution of its Seven Star brand of
wheat flour five years ago, keeping to its promise of an “uninterrupted
supply of the freshest wheat flour to Sri Lankan consumers and the
industry”.
The Seven Star Brand represents seven cardinal values. Each star
represents an intrinsic value - purity, innovation, quality, freshness,
expertise, service and trust. Since then the company has introduced
baker’s flour, all-purpose flour, atta flour, wholemeal flour, semolina,
and most recently, cake flour to its growing portfolio of flour products
in Sri Lanka.
The company which launched operations in Sri Lanka in June 2008 at
its US$ 56 million state-of-the-art, 1,000 tons per day single-line
capacity wheat flour mill in the Port of Colombo is backed by the
leading flour millers in the Middle East, National Flour Mills (llc) of
the Al-Ghurair Group.
