German couple arrested for insulting Buddhism

A German couple who allegedly desecrated Buddhism by placing Buddha
statues at unsuitable places such as bathrooms, were arrested in Iduruwa,
Yalegama on Thursday night.
The Police seized 10 Buddha statues and a Gana Devi statue placed in
unclean places in a restaurant owned by the couple following information
given by a team of Buddhist monks.
On information received by the Sinhala Rawaya Buddhist Society, the
monks had gone to the restaurant with the police and found the statues.
The German couple was released by the Police after recording their
statement.
The statues will be given to the Archaeology Department, the Police
said. |
