Miss S Shandani, an inmate of the
Siriliya Sewana Home at Vavuniya, was rehabilitated as a
result of the personal involvement and keen interest of
First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. After following her higher
education at an international school, she was fortunate to
be recruited as a member of the Sri Lanka Navy Band.
Shandani recently visited Temple Trees and received the

A ceremony organised by Land and
Lands Development Ministry in collaboration with Land
Commissioner’s Department was held at the Ratmalana
Provincial Secretariat Auditorium on Saturday with First
Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa as Chief Guest. The First Lady
presented deeds to veteran screen, television and stage
actors and actresses on the occasion. The event was
organised on the directives of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Mamoru Morohoshi, a special envoy of
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the executive
managing advisor of Japan’s NHK International called on
President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees on Saturday.
Morohoshi brought a message from
Prime Minister Abe expressing his good wishes for President
Rajapaksa. Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo,
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Mass Media
and Information Ministry Secretary Dr. Charitha Herath were

Nanda Malini were the two most renowned recipients of awards
at Kavitha 2012, the first national awards ceremony to
appreciate the creative talents of students of universities
and higher educational
institutions,held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa
Theatre on Saturday. The ceremony was organised by the
