Social Services Ministry to fulfill its duties

The Social Services Ministry was working towards fulfilling its
duties, Social Services Minister Felix Perera said. Perera was
addressing the gathering of 'Ape Lamai' - special students who were
placed first in the 'Innerscape 2012 International event for the
visually, mentally and physically challenged'.

He exemplified the significance of the grants for construction of
homes for the disabled and providing Rs.3,000 monthly allowance for
disabled persons under the Mahinda Chintana programme and stated that
the ministry was working towards equalization of opportunities.
A group of four special children in ' Ape Lamai ' school in Botale,
Mirigama, participated at the 'Innerscape 2012 International competition
held at Lucknow, India and placed first among 32 countries.
The group consisted of Gayan Senadira, Vishwa Krishan, Nuwan
Chathuranga and Shavindu Umayanga.
The minister, while distributing prizes to the winners, granted a
healthy weight gaining nutrition supplement milk powder for low-weight
students worth Rs. 130,000 and provided two low-income earning families
with Rs. 250,000 each to construct new houses.
