Ven Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera rendered invaluable service – PM

Prime Minister D M Jayaratne in a message of greetings to Kelaniya University’s Chancellor Ven Dr Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Chief Sanghanayake of Colombo and Chilaw districts on the occasion of his 75th birthday said the contribution the Ven Kusaladhamma Thera made towards the success of the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Celebrations could never be forgotten.

The message added that Ven Kusaladhamma Thera rendered an invaluable service towards the progress and welfare of the Sangha community by holding the positions of Director Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena since 1983 and its Parivenadhipathi since 1989. The Prime Minister recalled that he had met the Ven Kusaladhamma Thera many a time since becoming Prime Minister and Minister of Buddhasasana to seek his valuable counsel and guidance which offered great courage and strength in the performance of his duties.

Ven Kusaladhamma Thera’s knowledge and wisdom offered strength in the efforts to take the country forward according to the Buddha’s teachings. The message concluded wishing the Ven Kusaladhamma Thera strength, courage and long life to continue his services towards the perpetration of the Buddhasasana.
