Pilisaru to tackle solid waste

Solid waste which has developed into a key topic, will be tackled
through the Pilisaru national solid waste management project and similar
national level programmes implemented throughout the country.
Environment and Renewable Energy Ministry Secretary B M U D Basnayake
and Central Environmental Authority chairman Wimal Rubasinghe paid a
special visit to the Karadiyana solid waste management site to monitor
its present condition.
A special discussion was held about regularising the waste management
process.
The waste management site of Karadiyana is responsible for managing
garbage in Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Boralesgamuwa, Kesbewa,
Piliyandala and Homagama under an environment-friendly regimen.
The Western Province Waste Management Authority is accountable for
the site's maintenance.
Technical aspects with regard to the proposed waste to energy project
at Karadiyana planned by the government were also discussed.
Western Province Waste Management Authority Director R P Samarakkody,
Pilisaru National Waste Management Project director N S Gamage and
Environment and Renewable Energy Ministry and Central Environmental
Authority officials were present. |
