Agar to stay on India tour
Australian cricket captain and selector Michael Clarke says there's a
big chance 19-year-old spinner Ashton Agar will be picked for the
three-day game against India A starting on Saturday in Chennai.
The potential Test bolter has played only two first-class games for
Western Australia.
Melbourne-born Agar, on tour as a net bowler, played Australia's
opening two-day game against the India Board XI as many senior players
remained in
Australia to finish the one-day series against the West Indies.
The full squad has assembled in Chennai but coach and selector Mickey
Arthur has decided to keep the promising Agar rather than send him home
to Perth this weekend as planned.
Clarke is yet to name the side for the three-day game, a first-class
fixture, although the decision to retain Agar suggests he's in
contention for selection not only in the three-day game but also the
first Test on February 22.
''It's exciting. He's having a good time. It's great to have him on
board,'' Clarke said. |
